Are minimum grade point averages, class ranks, or test scores required for admission at Princeton?

Accepted Answer

No. All of these factors are taken into account, but only in the context of each applicant's school and situation. In general, the most promising candidates have high grades and standardised test scores that are above average. While important, these criteria do not provide a complete picture of each student's academic achievement or potential. All aspects of a student's academic preparation are assessed.

What does Princeton look for in its applicants?

Accepted Answer

The university looks at each application individually to get a sense of the student's unique set of skills. They don't have a description of the ideal candidate or class. In fact, the diversity of talents, personal qualities, experiences, and points of view in each incoming class is one of Princeton's greatest assets. They hope that all Princeton students possess the following qualities: integrity, a strong desire to learn, and a commitment to both academic and non-academic pursuits.

What tests do I need to take?

Accepted Answer

Official SAT Reasoning Test or ACT scores are required for a complete application. SAT Subject Tests are not required. Please keep in mind that the College Board English Language Proficiency Test is not a subject area exam or a replacement for the SAT Reasoning Test.

Question 4

Are there special admission requirements for students applying from abroad?

Accepted Answer

You must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic), or the Pearson Test of English Academic if English is not your first language and you attend a school where English is not the language of instruction (PTE Academic). International students and U.S. citizens attending high schools abroad face no additional admission requirements.

Question 5

Are there research opportunities for undergraduates?

Accepted Answer

In their home departments, all students conduct independent research. The senior thesis is the culmination of this work, in which each student works one-on-one with a faculty mentor. Some students conduct their research in a library or a laboratory setting. Others go on field trips or to work on a creative project like a novel or a series of paintings.
